Boys basketball: Locust Fork 54, Briarwood Christian 40

LOCUST FORK — Like their counterparts on the girls' basketball team, the Locust Fork boys jumped out to a big early lead in the first half, and coasted to a 54-40 win over visiting Briarwood Christian on Saturday.

The Hornets (15-8) turned it on in the second quarter with 24 points, and held a commanding 39-16 advantage over the Lions at halftime.

Clay Smith paced Locust Fork with 15 points, while Kyle Hornbuckle and Dillon Burton added 14 points each.

Brad Loveless led Briarwood with nine points.

The Hornets go into this week's Blount County Tournament at Cleveland as the top seed, and thereby get a first-round bye. They await a semifinal to be played Thursday at 8 p.m. against the winner between Hayden and Susan Moore.
