Gerald Tuck, whose 54-year career as a baseball coach included a long stint at Mortimer Jordan, will be inducted Friday into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
Tuck, who has been an assistant coach at Samford University since 1990, was the head baseball coach for the Blue Devils from 1962 to 1985. Prior to that, he coached at Minor, and after his Jordan tenure went on to the old Phillips High (his alma mater) and later Tarrant.
The hall of fame is sponsored by the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association.
He and four other coaches will be inducted in a ceremony Friday night at the Birmingham Marriott Hotel on U.S. 280. Joining Tuck will be longtime Hoover High coach Rick Davis; Mike Szymanski, coach at Satsuma for 30 years; Joe "Jabo" Jordan, coach at Southern Union Community College since 1987; and Dick Steed, who will receive the association's distinguished service award for his tenure as president of the Jefferson County Baseball Coaches Association.
