Boys basketball: Huffman 71, Gardendale 67

HUFFMAN — Trey Evans had a huge night with 25 points and 16 rebounds, but a seocnd-half rally by Gardendale fell a bit short, as Huffman prevailed with a 71-67 victory in an area boys basketball contest Friday.

Alen Williams scored 19 points for the Rockets, going 10-for-11 (91 percent) at the foul line, plus handing out eight assists. D.J. Lewis added 10 points.

Brandon Prince led the way for the Vikings (5-8, 2-2 area) with 22 points, though he was shut out in the fourth quarter. Dedryck Carson had 15 points, isaiah Core 12 and Dalon Evans 11 for Huffman.

Both teams had good nights at the charity stripe, with Gardendale hitting 75 percent of its shots and Huffman 72 percent. The Rockets struggled from the perimeter, though, hitting just three 3-point shots in 20 attempts (15 percent).

Gardendale (8-10, 1-3 area) hosts Tarrant on Monday night.
