Boys basketball: Carver-Birmingham 69, Gardendale 57

BIRMINGHAM — Carver outscored visiting Gardendale 19-9 in the third quarter, which gave the Rams enough of a cushion to withstand a rally attempt by the Rockets and earn a 69-57 win in Class 6A Area 12 boys basketball action Tuesday.

Latarrius Carrol scored 24 points, 11 of them in the first quarter, to lead the Rams (11-9, 3-1 area). Robert Parks added 20 points and Rod Johnson scored 12.

Trey Evans paced the Rockets (9-10, 1-2 area) with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Allen Williams scored 12 with a trio of 3-pointers, and Juan Jackson added 11 with a pair of treys.

Gardendale hosts area for Huffman on Friday.
