LOCUST FORK —
Freshman guard Kasi McMillan scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, as 10th-ranked Locust Fork outran J.B. Pennington 67-34 in Monday night girls basketball play.
McMillan shot 64 percent from the floor, and also had three steals and a block. It keeps her season-to-date stats on a double-double pace — 11 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.
“Kasi, as a freshman, broke the school record for rebounds in a game,” Hornet coach Barbara Roy said.
She paired up with junior guard Selena Hart, who recorded a double-double of her own with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She was 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point line, and also dished out seven assists.
The Hornets (9-2) were in command from the outset, leading by 18 at halftime and holding the Tigers to a single point in the fourth quarter.
It was yet another solid performance from a Locust Fork squad that has only eight players on the roster — five juniors, a freshman and two eighth-graders.
“They’re a hard-working group of girls, all of them,” Roy said. “Kasi, Kristen [Cox] and and Brittany [Hudson] came up and played varsity as freshmen. A lot of times the young girls just come up and play — they’re just fearless.”
Roy is in her 11th season coaching the team.
Pennington (3-7) was led by Madison Casale with 11 points, including three treys, and Madison Butts with 10 points, including a pair of threes.
The Hornets host Springville on Friday, while the Tigers travel to Cleveland on Tuesday.
