Baseball: Mortimer Jordan sweeps Hueytown, 4-1 and 6-0

KIMBERLY — It was a good night for Mortimer Jordan pitching, as Taylor Goodwin and Wes Crawford combined for 18 strikeouts and no earned runs as the Blue Devils swept Hueytown in a Thursday baseball doubleheader.

The Devils won the opening game 4-1, and took the second 6-0.

Crawford went the distance in the opening game for Jordan, striking out seven Golden Gophers while allowing four hits, one walk and no earned runs.

Crawford also had a good night at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 and scoring twice. Designated hitter Brandon Couch was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, while Nathan Stover was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Houston Poole lasted just two innings on the mound for the Gophers and took the loss.

In the nightcap, Goodwin fanned 11 Hueytown hitters and yielded just three hits for the shutout win. He also was 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple, a walk and an RBI.

Stover hit a two-run double, and Crawford was 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Devils.

Casey Crews went all seven innings in the loss for Hueytown.

Jordan (15-8) hosts Dora in a Friday doubleheader.
