Softball: Pinson Valley falls to Cullman and Curry

— Pinson Valley dropped a pair of time-limited games in tournament play Friday, losing by an 8-6 score to Cullman and 8-1 to Curry.

In the first game, they Bearcats jumped out to an ealy lead on a first-inning grand slam by Hayden Short. They bumped their lead up to 7-0 before the Indians got on the board in the third; Lauren Keplinger came home when Hana Presley reached first on a dropped third strike with the bases loaded, then Jenna Trimm hit an RBI single.

After Cullman got a run back in the top of the fourth and final inning, the Tribe scored four times in the bottom of the inning, keyed by RBI hits by Keplinger and Emmie Waldrop, plus a sacrifice fly by Waldrop before the time limit expired.

Kirbi Tuck was 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run for the Indians.

Trimm look the loss in the circle, striking out six. None of her four runs were earned, as Pinson struggled defensively with five errors.

In the nightcap, the Indians continued to have fielding issues, as two errors in the second inning figured in three of the five Curry runs. Another error in the first inning allowed a run to score.

Tuck scored the only run for Pinson Valley (5-7) when she sent a two-strike pitch over the center field fence for a lead-off home run.

Waldrop was 2-for-2 for the Tribe, while Kaylee Horton and Kathryn Justice were each 2-for-3 for the Yellow Jackets.

Keplinger pitched 4-1/3 innings for Pinson; none of her eight runs were earned.
