GARDENDALE — If you're a high school athlete at certain area schools and you need to get a physical — or if you're the parent of such an athlete — Dr. Larry Lemak may have a gift for you.
The famed Birmingham sports doctor and his team will be at the Gardendale Civic Center on Friday, offering free physicals for as many as 1,005 students.
According to a press statement issued by Lemak Sports Medicine, the physicals will be a "comprehensive head-to-toe physical examinations including assessments in medical history, orthopedic health, vision, height, weight, blood pressure, heart/lungs as well as a complete concussion baseline assessment."
The physicals are designed to meet the requirements of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Lemak serves on the AHSAA Medical Advisory Committee.
The physicals will be offered to students at Gardendale High School, Bragg Middle, Fultondale High, Hueytown High, Center Point High, Clay-Chalkville Middle and High schools, and Leeds High. Those schools' athletic programs are clients of Lemak Sports Medicine.
