Baseball: Mortimer Jordan 6-9, Oak Grove 1-5

OAK GROVE — Mortimer Jordan swept both ends of its traditional opening-day doubleheader at Oak Grove on Monday, winning 6-1 in the first game and 9-5 in the second.

In the opener, Nathan Stover and Ty Miller each went 2-for-4 at the plate and batted in a run apiece for the Blue Devils. Miller scored twice and Stover once. Devin Hodges also had a run-scoring hit and scored twice.

Starter Garrett Suchey picked up the win in four innings of work, allowing two hits and one run while striking out six. Miller got a three-inning save.

Trey Prestridge went 2-for-3 and scored the Tigers' only run. Jake Swindle went the distance in a losing effort.

In the nightcap, the Devils scored two runs in each of the last three innings. Stover pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save, with starter Wes Crawford going four innings with three hots and one earned run for the win.

Stover was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a sacrifice bunt to drive home two runs.

Prestridge was again 2-for-3 for Oak Grove and drove in two runs. Sam Posten pitched all seven for the loss.
