HAYDEN — Locust Fork and host Hayden will meet in the winner's bracket finals of the Blount County Softball Tournament on Friday evening, thanks to victories by both teams in Thursday's play.
The Wildcats, ranked second statewide in Class 5A, had a first-round bye and easily handled Southeastern 11-0 in a five-inning second-round game. Brooke Meadows slammed a three-run homer, and Katie Parr added a two-run blast. Parr, as starting pitcher, and reliever Chloe Kirkland teamed up tp hold the Mustangs to just two hits.
The Hornets had an easy win in the first round, dispensing with Cleveland 17-2 in three innings. Locust Fork scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third, including a three-run homer by Anna Hood. Pitcher Macy Wilks gave up three hits and two walks against one strikeout.
Homers by Haley Glasscox and Jamie Gail Hudson helped push the Hornets past J.B. Pennington by a 10-6 score, in a second-round game that ended after five innings due to a time limit. Glasscox was 2-for-2 and drove in four runs, while Hudson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Tailor Massey and Savannah Gilham were each 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Wilks pitched all five innings, striking out five while allowing seven hits.
The Wildcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
