Eight-man football: Victory Christian-Columbus, Miss. 63, Tabernacle Christian 20

GARDENDALE — The only thing that kept Victory Christian-Columbus from scoring on every possession in the first half was the clock — it ran out on them in the last drive.

That was about the only thing that went right for Tabernacle Christian in the early going, as they were blown out by a 63-20 score, in the first Christian Football Association eight-man conference game of the season.

Torches quarterback Caleb Lindsey was 6-for-14 for 129 yards passing with one touchdown; he also ran for another score. Backup QB Andrew Branham was 4-for-8 for 79 yards, and also threw a TD pass.

Tristan Lash caught five passes for 106 yards, and Austin Hamlett — back from an injury that he suffered in the season opener — had two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.

But the outcome was never in doubt, as Victory put up 38 points in the first quarter alone and led 51-14 at halftime. Tabernacle was also without the services of running back Tristan Castro, who is suffering from a hernia.

The Torches (2-3, 0-1 CFA) travel to Cottondale to play Tuscaloosa Christian next week.
