GARDENDALE — Sophomore John White started his season off with a huge performance, as he scored a career-high 30 points in Tabernacle's 39-38 comeback win over visiting Trinity Christian in their season opener.
The Torches were down most of the way and behind by 12 with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter, only to reel off 10 straight points to close out the period.
White knocked down eight 3-point baskets, also a career high.
Michael Rueberg scored 17 points and Kolby Ingram added 14 for the Tigers.
The Tabernacle boys (1-0) travel to Union Chapel Academy in Huntsville on Tuesday night, while the girls' team plays its season opener at home against Marshall Christian.
