LOCUST FORK — Locust Fork had a bad night shooting from the field, but more than made up for it on defense and at the foul line as they routed J.B. Pennington 56-26 in a mercy-rule girls basketball victory Monday night.

The Hornets were just 15-for 63 (24 percent) from the floor and 1-for-9 from outside the 3-point arc. But when they stepped up to the free throw line, they hit 20-of-22 (91 percent). Locust Fork also tallied 18 steals.

Selena Hart led the Hornets with 16 points, and Jamie Gail Hudson added 10. Kristen Cox had a double-double of a different sort — 14 rebounds and 10 steals against the Panthers (4-3).

Locust Fork (8-2) travels to Springville on Friday night.
