LOCUST FORK — Nicole Fisher's two-out double in the top of the seventh brought home the tying and winning runs, as Pinson Valley came from behind to snatch a 7-6 softball victory at Locust Fork on Monday.
Down 6-4 to start the seventh, Dallas Payton bunted her way to first, then got to third on a throwing error. She scored on a sacrifice by Kaitlyn Crocker. Then after a walk put Lauren Tralongo on board, Amber Howard doubled to center field to set the table for Fisher's winning hit.
The Indians took the lead in the first when they scored twice on and outfield error. The Hornets tied it in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer by Haley Glasscox. Pinson took the lead back in the third on a wild pitch that brought a runner in from third, then an RBI single by Howard.
Locust Fork put on a big rally in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk, a two-run hit by Jamie Gail Hudson, and an infield error.
Howard was 2-for-4 at the plate, and Payton 2-for-3. Howard was also the winning pitcher, going the distance for the Indians with seven hots, four strikeouts and four walks.
Starter Christian Rhodes went three innings for the Hornets before giving way to Hudson, who struck out four in four innings of work.
Pinson travels to Moody on Tuesday in the first area game of the season, while Locust Fork plays their area opener at Fairview on Thursday.
