Softball: Mortimer Jordan 12, Springville 2 (6 innings)

KIMBERLY —  

Freshman pitcher Bailey Murphy began the 2013 softball season right where she left off as an eighth-grader in 2012, recording 15 strikeouts as Mortimer Jordan blew out Springville 12-2 in six innings in the season opener Thursday night.

Murphy allowed just two hits and one earned run, and issued no walks.

Alex Copeland and Natalie Johnsey each hit 2-for-4 and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils. Shelby Maze was 2-for-3 at the plate, scoring twice and stealing two bases.

Sydne Waldrop was 2-for-3 for Springville.

The Devils will play in the Spain Park Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
