Softball regionals: Tuscaloosa in rain delay

TUSCALOOSA — The opening of the AHSAA North Central Regional Softball Tournament will not get started on time, thanks to rain in the Tuscaloosa area.

The tournament, which is being played for the first time at Munny Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa, was scheduled to begin play Friday at 8 a.m. But Fultondale coach David Reed was told upon his team's arrival that rain had delayed the start by two hours, meaning his Wildcats would not play their first game until 11:30 a.m.

Fultondale is joined by Locust Fork, Hayden and Gardendale at the tournament. Corner plays in the South Central Regional in Troy, which is expected to get underway on time but may experience delays later today.

National Weather Service radar shows a large mass of steady, light-to-moderate rain over Tuscaloosa County at 8:15 a.m., with more behind it moving in from the southwest, so further delays are possible.

We will have updates as they become available on our Facebook page and our Twitter feed.
