MOODY — Pinson Valley lost in the first round of the Class 5A Area 11 softball tournament as Springville came from behind for a 6-5 win. But the Indians came back to smash Center Point 16-0 in three innings in the loser's bracket semifinal on Monday at Moody.
In the opening game, the Indians scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning after the Tigers had taken a 3-0 lead.
Jenna Trimm put Pinson on the board with a bases-loaded single on a ground ball to the shortstop. Kaitlyn Crocker then sent home two runs on a line-drive double to left field. Trimm then scored on a passed ball, and then Crocker came home from third when Destiny Cole grounded out to short.
The Tigers got the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth when Sydne Waldrop hit a two-out single to center field that scored Baleigh Swaney and Hayden Henderson. Waldrop was thrown out at second as she tried to stretch the single into a double.
Ashlyn Hawkins got the win in relief for Springville, allowing two hits in three innings work. Lauren Keplinger got the loss for the Indians as she went the distance.
In the nightcap, Lexi Wombal allowed just one hot and struck out five Eagle batters, as Pinson ran roughshod over an inexperienced Center Point squad. Hana Presley went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
That win sets up a game against Moody in the loser's bracket final, after the Tigers knocked off the Blue Devils in the winner's bracket finals. The game begins at 4:30, with a trip to the regional tournament next week in Tuscaloosa is on the line.
