GARDENDALE — Catcher Chelsey Deloney scored three runs, the last coming off her own two-run home run, as Gardendale defeated Corner 9-2 in softball action Tuesday.

Deloney's homer bounced off the top of the outfield fence, just out of reach ofr Yellow Jackets center fielder Taylor Sloan. Deloney also hit a double in the first inning as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

The Jackets (8-6) had their chances throughout the game, but left seven runners on base. Meanwhile, Rocket pitcher Cris Gant  seemed to be able to get the third out just in time when the Jackets threatened. She struckout six Corner batters and gave up six hits, one of which was a two-run homer by Bailee Hammock.

Carrigan Fain hit a double that drove in two runs for Gardendale (11-5), and Caroline Casady scored twice after reaching on an error and a fielder's choice. Jordyn Elston also scored two runs, reaching base on a single and an error.

Gardendale hosts Vestavia Hills on Thursday, while Corner travels to Springville to play in the Wise Memorial Tournament; the Rockets play in that same event on Saturday.
