HUNTSVILLE — The end of the season has come one match earlier than Pinson Valley's teams would have liked.
Both the boys' and girls' teams were knocked out of the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs in the state semifinals on Friday afternoon. The Indians boys lost 5-1 to third-ranked Homewood, while the girls were blanked 5-0 by top-rated John Carroll Catholic.
In the boys' game, Ramon Cupido scored the lone goal for Pinson, as he beat the Homewood keeper in a dash to the ball, then tucked it safely into an open net in the 65th minute.
Caroline Moffett scored two goals for the Cavaliers in the 28th and 41st minutes.
The trip to the semifinals was the best finish ever for a Tribe girls team; indeed, the school had not even fielded a girls' side for two years for various reasons. For the boys, it was the third straight loss at the semifinal level.
