There's been a bit of shuffling in the Alabama Sports Writers Association state softball rankings, particularly in Class 5A involving two local teams.
Hayden has moved up from sixth to fifth, while Mortimer Jordan fall from fourth to sixth in the latest rankings, released Thursday morning.
Curry, the third team from Area 12 in the top 10, dropped from fifth to seventh. Those three teams are battling for the area championship and the right to host the post-season tournament, which has been a post-season fixture at Jordan for years. Only two teams will advance to the regionals in Tuscaloosa, which means one ranked team won't make it if the polls stay intact.
Corner held steady in the sixth spot in the Class 4A ratings.
In the last baseball rankings of the season, nothing changed for local teams. Pinson Valley remained ensconced in the tenth spot in Class 5A, the only local ranked team. Gardendale, Jordan and Corner were listed in the "others nominated" group in their respective classes.
Post-season baseball play begins Friday, with Pinson, Jordan and Corner hosting first-round doubleheaders. Gardendale travels to Vestavia Hills, and Fultondale goes to second-ranked Randolph County.
