Baseball: Locust Fork 15, Southeastern 0

REMLAP — Michael Reid's home run was the big hit of the day, as Locust Fork overwhelmed Southeastern 15-0 in five innings on Friday.

Reid's two-run blast to right field started the rout in the first inning. Dylam McMurray's two-run double was they key to a six-run rally in the second for the Hornets.

Locust Fork also got doubles from Kyle Hornbuckle, Jacob Hancock and Chris Glasscox. The latter was 2-for-2 for the day and Keith Terry was 2-for-3, as coach Donnie Taylor got his entire lineup into the game.

The Mustangs were able to muster just three hits against a trio of Hornet pitchers. They also struggled in the field, committing eight errors.

Locust Fork (16-6, 4-0 area) locked up a Class 4A playoff berth by sweeping St. Clair County last week, and are enjoying an 11-game winning streak. But they face their toughest opponent of the season by far next Monday and Tuesday, as they take on second-ranked Oneonta. The first game of the scheduled three-game series is Monday at Locust Fork, followed by a second game (and a third if necessary) on Tuesday at Oneonta.

Southeastern drops to 8-13 on the season ,but is 4-0 in its area and also has a playoff berth locked up. They host Victory Christian-Pell City on Tuesday.
