Boys basketball: Corner 64, Oak Grove 55

CORNER — Something got into Blake Byrd during intermission.

After being held to five points in the first half, Byrd went on a tear in the second, including an astonishing one-minute span in which he scored 11 points to lead Corner to a 64-55 win Tuesday night.

Byrd finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets, who trailed by three points at the half.

"We were asleep in the first half, and then we just woke up and decided to play," coach Billy Conner said. "They did a great job guarding us. They  played a matchup zone, and we came back with our usual man-to-man."

Zac Pate added 10 points and Austin Sanford nine for Corner (5-5). Griff Garner scored 16 and Justin Pate 14 for the Tigers (2-7).

The Jackets open play in their annual Christmas tournament on Thursday night, with a first-round game at 8 p.m.
