Baseball: Mortimer Jordan 18-15, Shades Valley 1-2

IRONDALE — Mortimer Jordan brought out the heavy artillery Tuesday, decimating Shades Valley 18-1 and 15-2 in a baseball doubleheader.

In the five-inning opening game, the Blue Devils scored a whopping 14 runs in the fourth inning. Austin Davis and Dylan Burgett each went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs driven in; Davis hit a double, while Burgett scored three times. Wes Crawford was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Justin Folse pitched three hitless innings for the victory.

In the six-inning nightcap, center fielder Walker McCleney broke out the big bat, going 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, five RBIs and two runs scored. Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs driven home, and Folse (as designated hitter) was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Claude Newell was 2-for-3 for the Mounties.

Blue Devils coach Shayne Carnes let several pitchers get some time on the mound, with Natan Stover getting the win by striking out four Mounties in two innings.

Jordan (13-8) hosts Hueytown on Thursday for a doubleheader.
