Students from Gardendale, Pinson Valley and Corner high schools have been named regional winners of the Bryant-Jordan Awards, given by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Carrigan Fain of Gardendale was named the Region 6 Class 6A winner in the scholar-athlete division. Fain is a multi-sport athlete, best known as the starting catcher for the Rockets' softball team; she will play college ball at the University of Alabama.
Bailey Hammock of Corner was named the Region 4 Class 4A winner in the scholar-athlete division. Also a multi-sport athlete, Hammock is also a starter for the Yellow Jackets softball team.
In the student achievement division, Barrett Crossley of Pinson Valley was selected for Class 5A Region 6. Crossley played football and was a qualifier for the state wrestling tournament as a heavyweight.
All three winners will receive a $2,500 scholarship. Class winners selected from among the eight regional winners will receive an additional $3,000 in scholarships, and the overall winners in the scholar-athlete and student achievement divisions will win $3,000 more.
Last year, Blake Byrd of Corner was the overall state winner for the Ken and Betty Joy Blankenship Achievement Award.
Winners will be announced at a banquet at the Birmingham Sheraton Hotel on April 14.
The is the 29th year of the scholarship program, which is named for coaching legends Paul "Bear" Bryant of Alabama and Ralph "Shug" Jordan of Auburn.
