Baseball: Gardendale 2-11, Oak Grove 3-1

OAK GROVE — Gardendale and Oak Grove split a baseball doubleheader Wednesday, with the Tigers winning the first game 3-2 and the Rockets taking the second contest 11-1 in six innings.

Bryce Jay had a busy day, with a run-scoring triple in the opener and three doubles with three RBIs in the nightcap. He was the losing pitcher in the first game, going five innings and striking out five while allowing five hits and two earned runs.

Luke Bowden got the win for Oak Grove, ceding just three hits in 5-2/3 innings. He helped his own cause with a two-run double.

In the closing game, Carter Burns struck out nine Tigers in 4-2/3 innings for his second win of the season. Jacob Freeman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

John Todd drove in Oak Grove’s sole run.
