JASPER — Mortimer Jordan completed a sweep of all three of its Area 12 opponents, as they defeated Curry in both games of a baseball doubleheader Tuesday.
The Blue Devils took the first game 7-0, and the second 11-1 in five innings.
Orion Recke (7-1) threw a two-hitter in the opener, striking out 11 Yellow Jacket batters. He allowed no walks, and faced just 24 batters in seven innings.
Ty Miller drove in three runs with a double in the fifth inning. Recke went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Garrett Suchey had a run-scoring double. Connor Moon was also 2-for-4.
In the nightcap, starter Ty Miller and reliever Nathan Stover combined to hold Curry to three hits and no earned runs. Walker McCleney hit a double and drove in two runners, while Taylor Goodwin knocked a run-scoring triple. Wes Crawford and Justin Folse each had a pair of hits and an RBI.
The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be a single game, with a return twin-bill at Jordan on Thursday. The schedule was changed because of the threat Thursday of severe weather.
The Blue Devils (32-6, 6-0 area) will host the first round of the Class 5A playoffs on Friday, April 19 with a doubleheader, and an if-necessary game the following day. Their opponent will be the second-place team from Area 11, which is still to be determined between 10th-ranked Pinson Valley, Moody and Springville, with the Indians having the upper hand in taking the area title.
