Wrestling: Pinson Valley sweeps tri-match with Mortimer Jordan and Fultondale

FULTONDALE — Pinson Valley's wrestling team is on a roll.

The Indians ran their dual-meet record 24-3 after sweeping Mortimer Jordan and host Fultondale on Tuesday night. And coach Gene Richardson is even okay with the three losses.

"We got beat by Oak Mountain and Hewitt-Trussville [in Class 6A] and Scottsboro, the state champion in 5A," Richardson said. "I'll take that."

Pinson defeated the Blue Devils 48-33 in the opening match of the night, and then beat the Wildcats 57-24 in the nightcap. Jordan bested Fultondale 42-30 in the middle match, closing out the Cats by winning bouts in the last three weight classes.

The Indians got pins in both matches from Hank Turner at 126 pounds, Blake Treglown at 132, Kyle Hurston at 145 and Barrett Crossley at heavyweight.

The Devils had double pins from Austin Underwood at 170 and DJ Cole at 195. The Wildcats got doubles from Dylan Trice at 113 pounds and Austin Burbin, who got one pin at 182 pounds and another at 220. Zach Cummings also had a pin and a decision for Fultondale (19-10).

Pinson hosts Gardendale and Dora in a tri-match Thursday night, and a dual at Buckhorn on Saturday. Fultondale takes part in the Bearcat Duals at Weaver on Saturday, while Jordan is off until January.
