HAYDEN — Quarterback Delvin Hodges accounted for 300 of the 420 yards of total offense for visiting Mortimer Jordan, as they defeated Hayden 43-13 in a Class 5A Region 6 clash Friday night.

Hodges opened the scoring on a 2-yard run midway of the first quarter. Then after another Hayden punt, Jordan was in business near midfield. Sam Blair scored the first of his two touchdowns on the night with a 3-yard run with 4:12 remaining in the opening quarter; a Hodges toss to J.D. Tanks on the converstion put the Blue Devils ahead 14-0.

After another Cats punt Blair scored again, this time from eight yards out with 11:06 left in the first half.

The next Jordan drive was stopped when Hayden's Clay Hogeland recovered the first of two fumbles on the night at the Cats 1-yard line. But on the subsequent Wildcat possession Jordan forced a punt, and Landon Smith raced 35 yards for the touchdown on the punt return. That gave the Devils a 28-0 halftime lead.

Jordan wasted little time striking in the second half, scoring on a 31-yard pass from Hodges to Walker McCleney. The point-after kick failed but Jordan had extended the lead to 34-0 with 11:14 left in the third quarter.

On the Devils’ next drive, Taylor White hit a 23-yard field goal to put Jordan up 37-0.

Hayden's defense then forced a punt and was in Jordan territory at the 38. Hogeland finally put the home team on the scoreboard when he ran in for the touchdown from one yard out. Patrick Ward added the point after to cut the lead to 37-7 with 7:42 left in the game.

On the Devils' next possession, Hogeland scooped up a Jordan fumble and returned it to the 10-yard line, where four plays later he scored from three yards away with 5:25 on the clock.

The Devils added a late touchdown on a 47-yard fumble return by Kalin Stringer.

Hayden's Blake Adams led the individual rushing stats with 64 yards on 17 carries, plus also had three pass catches for 30 yards receiving.

Hodges was 15-of-16 for 240 yards and one touchdown in passing, plus one rushing touchdown. Smith had 73 yards receiving, while McCleney had three catches for 40 yards and a score. Blair had only four carries on the night, but two were for scores.

Jordan (4-3 overall, 3-2 region) hosts Walker next week, while winless Hayden travels to Center Point, which was ranked fifth in Class 5A last week before losing to Walker on Friday.
