KIMBERLY — Mortimer Jordan threw several pitchers at Oak Grove on Monday, but it was one of them who won the game with her bat more than her arm, as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils prevailed by a 4-2 score.
Bailey Murphy drove in three runs, with a single in her only official at-bat plus a walk and a sacrifice fly. Shelby Maze added a single and a stolen base, and scored twice.
Natalie Johnsey got the win for Jordan, coming in for starter Savanna Crawford after 2-1/3 innings. Johnsey went through the end of the fifth, allowing just one hit while striking out three Tigers.
Johnsey was relieved by Natalie Landers for an inning; she then gave way to Murphy in an unusual closer's role, who got credit for the save by working the seventh inning.
Courtney Hood was 2-for-2 for Oak Grove with a triple and a run scored. Lila Ritter was the losing pitcher, allowing four hits and four earned runs while striking out five.
The Devils (17-8) host Mountain Brook on Tuesday.
