Baseball: Mortimer Jordan 8-11, Springville 4-7

KIMBERLY — Mortimer Jordan has now won its first four baseball games of the new season, thanks to a doubleheader sweep over Springville in the Blue Devils’ home opener.

A four-run third inning led Jordan to an 8-4 victory in the first game, and six runs in the last two innings, sparked a comeback for an 11-7 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Garrett Suchey was 2-for-3 in hitting with a double and two runs batted in. Ty Miller was 0-for-2, but still had two RBIs with a walk and a sacrifice fly.

Sam Blair got the win with four innings on the mound in relief of Orion Recke. Blair gave up three hits and three earned runs. Tiger starter Alex Foster lasted just 2.1 innings in the loss.

In the closing game, the Tigers scored six runs in the top of the fourth, but Jordan scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the lead back for good.

Blair had an inside-the-park home run and a triple, driving home four runs. Suchey had a conventional homer, and was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Ty Miller came in to put out the fire with two out in the fourth, and stuck around through the sixth to get the win, giving up one hit while striking out four. Taylor Goodwin struck out the side in the seventh for the save.

Jackson Farley was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs for Springville.
