Baseball: Gardendale 7, Hewitt-Trussville 2

TRUSSVILLE — Chris Blakey and Bryce Jay each went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs apiece, as Gardendale picked up its second Class 6A area baseball win with a 7-2 victory at Hewitt-Trussville Tuesday night.

Carter Burns (6-2) went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run. He struck out three Huskies, and also went 2-for-3 in hitting.

After each team put up single runs in the second inning, the Rockets (16-8, 2-0 area) went ahead for good with three runs in the third.

Grayson Jones was tagged with the loss, going 5-2/3 innings for Hewitt with seven strikeouts.

Riley Stokes had a double, reached on an error and score twice for the Huskies.

Gardendale is scheduled for a doubleheader at Carver on Thursday, weather permitting, then hosts Hewitt for a twin-bill on Friday.
