HAYDEN — Corner scored twice in the fourth inning and twice in the ninth, all on plays that involved just one hit, as they beat Hayden 4-2 in nine innings in Thursday baseball play.
The only hit came from a lead-off single by the Jacket's Levi Green in the ninth. He stole second base, went to third on a walk, and scored on a passed ball. Brylon Brakefield then brought home Cole Lepchitz on a sacrifice bunt.
Earlier, Corner loaded the bases with an error and two hit batsmen. Lepchitz then reached on an error at second base, scoring Green and Chris Huff.
The Wildcats took an early lead when Michael Hoglan bashed a run-scoring double in the first, then added to their lead in the third when Patrick Hargett got on base on a dropped third strike, stole second, moved to third on a base hit and scored when Josh Helms hit into a fielder's choice.
Dillon McCaleb struck out nine and gave up no runs with just one hit in 4-2/3 innings to get the win for the Jackets. Huff struck out five in 4-1/3 innings of relief. Chris Whitt took the loss for the Cats, despite allowing just one hit and no earned runs in 3-2/3 innings.
Hoglan was 2-for-4 at the plate for the day.
Corner (4-3) goes to Springville on Saturday, while Hayden (2-3) is at Oak Grove on Friday afternoon.
