Baseball: Gardendale 23-18, Carver 1-1

ENSLEY — Gardendale ran away with two baseball wins over Carver in a class 6A area doubleheader Monday, winning by scores of 23-1 and 18-1 in a pair of five-inning contests.

In the opener, the Rockets scored 11 runs in the first inning alone. Hunter Crook went 4-for-4 plus a pair of walks, driving in five runs. Jake Freeman was 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Joseph Calvert got his first win of the season, allowing one hit in four innings and striking out six.

In the nightcap, Chris Blakey had an inside-the-park grand slam home run and a base hit. Bryce Jay drove in three runs with a hit and a walk, and four other Rockets drove home two runs each.

Chase Gravemen hurled all five innings for his first win, with one hit and four strikeouts.

Gardendale (18-10, 3-2 area) can lock up a playoff berth Tuesday by winning one of their two games at Huffman.
