Hayden's Caitlin Kirkland named to ASWA Super All-State team, John Simmons is 5A coach of the year

Maze, Parr, Entrekin and Rhodes chosen for all-state teams

— Hayden pitcher Caitlin Kirkland has been awarded three top honors, and head coach John Simmons has been selected as the Class 5A softball coach of the year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Kirkland, who paced the Wildcats in their first-ever state championship, was named to the Super All-State team, the Class 5A all-state team, and also pitcher of the year by the ASWA.

Kirkland was joined on the 5A all-state squad by teammate Katie Parr at third base, as well as Mortimer Jordan outfielder Shelby Maze.

In Class 4A, Corner second baseman Jordan Entrekin was named to the all-state team, and Locust Fork's Christian Rhodes was picked as an outfielder. The Yellow Jackets' Madison McCormack was given an honorable mention as a pitcher.

In Class 6A, Chelsey Deloney of Gardendale was given an honorable mention as a utility player.

The annual ASWA all-state teams are selected by a panel of newspaper sportswriters from across the state.
