Baseball: Oak Grove 8, Corner 1

OAK GROVE — Oak Grove exploded for six runs in the third inning, as they routed Corner 8-1 in baseball action Thursday.

Austin Lawrence drove in three runs for the Tigers. He brought home Luke Bowden in the first inning, after Bowden hit a run-scoring triple. Then he drove home two more with a single that keyed Oak Grove's third-inning rally.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets could muster only four hits against starting pitcher Jonah Todd and reliever Ryne Benson, Todd logged four strikeouts and no walks in six innings for the win.

Todd was also the Tigers' big hitter, going 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Lawrence and Bowden each went 2-for-4, with Bowden adding a double to his RBI triple.

Corner scored their only run on the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch.

The Jackets (11-15, 2-1 area) host the Tigers on Saturday for a doubleheader.
