Softball: Hoover 15, Gardendale 5 (6 innings)

HOOVER — Gardendale batters cranked out three home runs on Thursday, but still found themselves on the wrong end of a 15-5 six-inning loss at Hoover.

Carrigan Fain, Claire Lumpkin and Caroline Burns each smashed homers, but those accounted for three of the four hits that the Rockets were able to muster against Buccaneers pitcher Carly Sewell.

Hoover broke the game open early with six runs in the bottom of the first, including a three-run homer by Sewell. The Bucs added four more in the fourth.

Kristen Graham took the loss for the Rockets, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits in 4-2/3 innings. Cris Gant pitched one inning, issuing seven walks.

Abagail Solomon drove two runs home on a hit and two walks.

The Rockets host Vestavia Hills on Tuesday.
