Baseball: Fultondale splits at Covered Bridge Classic

BLOUNTSVILLE — Fultondale split its first two games of the season, falling 8-7 in eight innings to Cleveland and routing Appalachian 15-5 in five in Monday’s play at the Covered Bridge Classic tournament in Blount County.

In the opening game, Antwon McCary was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Nate Freeman hit a two-run double for the Wildcats. Lou Jones was tagged with the loss in relief.

Jessie Aaron hit two doubles and drove home four runs for the Panthers.

The Cats ran rampant in the nightcap, as Anton Wheeler hit a two-run homer for Fultondale. McCary had two doubles. Freeman pitched four innings for the win.
