VESTAVIA HILLS — Pinson Valley lost both games in a tri-series at Vestavia Hills on Friday, losing to Pelham 11-0 in five innings in the opener and 5-2 to the Rebels in the second game.
Fielding problems plagued the Indians throughout the loss to Pelham, as they committed seven errors. Only two of the 11 runs allowed b pitcher Lauren Keplinger were earned.
The Tribe threatened in the first inning with base hits by Emmie Waldrop and Destinee Cole that put runners on second and third, but Panther pitcher Rebekah Fox got out of the jam by getting Hana Presley to fly out to left field.
In the nightcap, Caroline Hardy smacked a solo home run for the Rebels, who added two more runs in the top of the fourth when Kelsi Olcott hit into an error. Vestavia also scored in the third on a passed ball, and again in the fifth when Kristin Chapman reached on another Indians error.
Pinson scored in the fifth when Cold double after a Presley walk. Both runners then came home on a Keplinger two-out, 0-and-2 hit between first and second.
Cole was 2-for-3 for the game for the Indians. Hardy went 4-for-4 with the homer plus a double for the Rebs.
Keplinger went all seven innings in the circle for the Pinson (6-9) loss, giving up eight hits with one strikeout. Hardy was the winning pitcher, fanning four but issuing six walks plus six hits.
