Jordan's Amanda Dean places fourth in state heptathlon

Amanda Dean of Mortimer Jordan placed fourth the AHSAA Track and Field Girls’ Heptathlon state championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Hoover.

Dean's finish was the best finish for a metro-area athlete in the event, which was again dominated by St. Paul's Episcopal, which had athletes finish first, second and fifth.

Dean's time of 25.60 seconds in the 200 meters, the last event of the first day, was the second-best overall. Only Lacy Dent had a faster time; she went on to win the overall title. Dean's distance in the shot put of 9.39 meters was third best.

In the boys’ decathlon, Eric Bennet of Jordan finished 29th and teammate Ben Barnett was 46th, and Casey Fuller of Corner placed 33rd.
