HAYDEN — A seven-point run in the fourth quarter finally allowed Hayden to pull away from Guntersville, and secure a 54-47 victory in the Friday semifinals of Hayden's own holiday girls basketball tournament.
The contest was knotted at 36-36 after three periods, reflecting what had been a see-saw battle for most of the game. The visitors took a brief lead to start the fourth period before Hayden started their run. The hosts then hit 5-of-9 at the free throw line late to seal the win.
Another double-double for center Katie Parr, who scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Brooke Meadows scored 13 to go with six assists and five steals; Sharley Miller and Evin Bibb scored nine points each.
Guntersville was led by Morgan Gaston with 15 points.
Hayden will face off against neighboring Mortimer Jordan in the championship game at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.The Blue Devils beat Springville 44-33 in the other semifinal on Friday.
