Girls basketball: Hayden 60, Mortimer Jordan 31

HAYDEN — Mortimer Jordan surprised Hayden early, putting on defensive pressure to take a 10-4 lead early. Then the Wildcats said, "Enough," and promptly scored 22 of the next 24 points, and that was pretty much that.

The spurt pushed Hayden to a 60-31 mercy-rule win over the Blue Devils in Friday night's Class 5A Area 14 girls basketball game.

Brooke Meadows led all scorers with 17 points, and also blocked two shots. Katie Parr tallied yet another double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds, Savannah Woodward scored 11 points and Hannah Padgett grabbed 12 rebounds for the Cats.

Kaylan Hines led the Devils with 12 points, including a pair of 3-point shots.

Hayden (8-2, 3-0 area) travels to Locust Fork on Monday night, while Jordan (7-5, 1-2) heads to Gardendale.
