GARDENDALE — Back at the AHSAA Regional Softball Tournaments in Tuscaloosa, University of Alabama head coach Pat Murphy was keeping a keen eye on Gardendale catcher Carrigan Fain.
Now, we know why.
It’s actually old news, to a certain extent, but the rising senior has verbally committed to play for the Crimson Tide squad, which is one year off of an NCAA championship but didn’t make the Women’s College World Series last season.
Fain has just finished a tournament with her travel-ball team, the North Carolina Lady Lightning Gold (Team Miken), where they won their bracket at the Louisville Slugger Independence Day Tournament in Boulder, Colo. Fain and her squad move on to tournaments in Chicago and California in the next few weeks.
Fain will be the third player from north Jefferson County to play for the Tide when she joins Mortimer Jordan standouts Haylie McCleney and Danae Hays on the Bama squad in 2014.
