Spring sports roundup: Fultondale loses soccer opener

Fultondale’s boys soccer team won’t have an unblemished sectional record this year.

The Wildcats finally got to play their season opener, after three other scheduled matches were called off or postponed, and lost a 1-0 decision at Leeds on Wednesday.

Fernando Rodriguez had the game’s only goal, scored in the 35th minute for Leeds (2-1).

Green Wave goalkeeper Brian Shockley stopped eight Fultondale shots on goal, most coming from attackers Gustavo Ezquerra and Tony Cruz.

Ernesto Valladares Jr. had 10 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
