Wrestling: Six local wrestlers go for the gold Saturday at state championships

HUNTSVILLE — Six local wrestlers will compete for state championships Saturday at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, and eight others will go in the consolation finals for third place. Pinson Valley and Fultondale have two wrestlers each in the championship round, while Hayden and Corner have one each.

In the team standings, Fultondale is in fourth place in Class 1A-4A, well behind front-runner St. James. In 5A, Pinson is in fifth, but at the top of the leaderboard it's a two-horse race between Scottsboro and Arab.

The Saturday wrestlers are:

GARDENDALE

Third Place: Daniel Adkins, heavyweight

PINSON VALLEY

Finals: Patrick Tenney, 103 lbs.; Jonathan Duke, 220

Third Place: Hank Turner, 126

MORTIMER JORDAN

Third Place: Braxton Worthington, 106; Jacob Howse, 138

HAYDEN

Finals: Hunter Flowers, 120

Third Place: Parker Sims, 170; Anthony Scott, 195

FULTONDALE

Finals: Gerald Smith, 138; Zach Cummings, 152

Third Place: Dylan Trice, 106; Dante Stanley, 160

CORNER

Finals: Cody Deason, 220
