Boys basketball: No. 8 (6A) Mountain Brook 76, Pinson Valley 70

MOUNTAIN BROOK — Pinson Valley went on a furious rally in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to climb out of a 20-point hole as the Indians fell to No. 8 (6A) Mountain Brook 76-70 in boys basketball action Friday.

Pinson outscored the Spartans 28-14 in the final quarter, but Mountain Brook had already amassed a substantial lead in the first half, and the deficit was simply too much to overcome.

Marcus Merriweather scored a game-high 29 points, and Devin Gary added 20 for the Indians (15-11).

Malek Grant scored 14 points and Jeremy Berman had 10 for the Spartans (22-5).

Mountain Brook finishes its season Saturday night at Huffman. Pinson closes out its regular season Monday night at Gardendale.
