HUEYTOWN — The seventh-ranked team in Class 5A celebrated its Senior Night by teeing off on visiting Corner, as Hueytown won 10-0 in six innings Friday.
Ashley Coleman had the big hit of the game, as she sent a Madison McCormack pitch sailing over the left field fence for a three-run home run in the fourth inning.
The Golden Gophers scored four times in the first, with two runs coming in on a Jackets error and another on a bases-loaded walk.
McCormack went five innings and gave up nine runs. Just four were earned, though, as the infield errors that plagued Corner in their game Thursday against Gardendale continued.
Cheyenne Bryant worked the final inning in relief, which ended with two out when Christy Hendrix doubled in the 10th run. It was the first time that the Jackets were on the losing end of the mercy rule since Aaron James became the team's coach.
Taylor Doreity went the distance in the circle for Hueytown, striking out six Corner batters and yeilding two hits, one each to McCormack and her younger sister, Baylee.
Haleigh Lott was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, and Megan Webb went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for the Gophers, who close out their regular season Monday at Hillcrest-Tiscaloosa.
Corner has finished its regular season, and is idle until its area tournament Thursday at Haleyville.
