Softball: Locust Fork 17, Appalachian 6

ONEONTA — Jamie Gail Hudson and Anna Hood hit back-to-back home runs, as Locust Fork dispensed with Appalachian on Thursday by a 17-6 score in five innings.

Hudson's homer came on the first pitch of the fifth inning, and Hood followed when she knocked a full-count pitch over the center-field fence.

After the two teams stayed on fairly even terms in the first two innings, the Hornets exploded for eight runs in the top of the third, capped off by Hudson's two-run double to put her team ahead 10-3.

Shelby Hancock and Savannah Gilham each drove in four runs. Hancock was 3-for-3 at the plate and Gilham was 3-for-4 with a triple. Hudson was 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Kelsey Bazzano was 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Eagles.

Macy Wilks got the win in the circle despite working just two innings; she struck out three and walked one. MacKenna Mardis took the loss for Appalachian.

Locust Fork (16-8) takes part in a tournament at Holly Pond this weekend, and will face Vinemont and West Point on Friday.
