HAYDEN — It was long-ball time for second-ranked Hayden on Monday, as they launched three solo homers in their 7-0 softball win over Corner.
Katie Parr hit a pair of homers, and Sharley Miller added another for the Wildcats.
Miller also had an effective day in the pitching circle, as she scattered three harmless singles while striking out seven Yellow Jackets over seven innings. No Corner runner got past second base.
Parr was 2-for-3 at the plate for the day, and Miller drove in two runs, thanks to a sacrifice bunt in addition to her home run. Carly Hodo was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Kayla Byrd had a two-run single as pat of a three-run rally in the sixth inning. Brooke Meadows was 2-for-4 with a double, and Savannah Woodard was 2-for-3.
The Jackets got hits from Baylee McCormack, Kaitlyn Long and Saydee Keith. Sydnee Watson gave up 11 hits and one walk to go with one strikeout.
Hayden (32-2) is scheduled to host Walker on Tuesday in a Class 5A, Area 12 game, and will also welcome top-ranked Curry on Thursday. Corner (11-10) is at Dora on Tuesday for a Class 4A Area 8 contest.
