PINSON — Pinson Valley put itself into the AHSAA baseball record book Tuesday by scoring 18 runs in the first inning, as they demolished Center Point 23-1 in a Class 5A area baseball game.

The total ranks third for most runs in an inning. The record was set by Blount in 2011 when they scored 22 runs in a game 39-32 win over LeFlore. Later that season, LeFlore returned the favor, tying the record as they defeated Blount by the same score.

Leroy scored 19 against Southern Choctaw in another game in 2011 to rank second.

Tyler Evans led the way for the Indians, going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in four runs. Jared McCurdy went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Austin Little had two runs driven in even though he did not record an official at-bat; he drew two bases-loaded walks.

Brad Eckmyre started on the mound and went two innings, striking out four while allowing one hit. Jacob Scales finished the game, fanning three Eagles and allowing their lone run.
