GARDENDALE —
For Tabernacle Christian, good things came in threes on Friday night.
The trio of Tristan Castro, Justin Sims and Caleb Lindsey scored three rushing touchdowns each as the Torches ran over New Life Christian by a 70-38 score Friday night in eight-man play at Gardendale’s Moncrief Park.
Castro scored on a 45-yard ramble and a pair of 9-yard runs. He finished with 135 yards on nine carries for the night.
Sims had scoring runs of 50, 45 and 3 yards, and gained 125 yards on 11 rushes.
Lindsey kept his scores short and sweet — 12 yards, 3 and 1, as three out of his four carries went for touchdowns. He was also 9-for-10 in passing, including a touchdown throw to Castro for 42 yards, one of his three catches for the night.
As has been the habit of late for the Torches, the second half was played under a running clock, after the hosts had amassed a 54-26 lead at the break. But the game didn’t start out lopsided, as the Eagles tied Tabernacle at 20-20 after the first quarter.
The victory keeps the Torches’ season record perfect at 8-0, and they finish the Christian Football Association regular season schedule with a 5-0 mark; their current winning streak over two seasons stands at 19 games.
Tabernacle ends their regular season with a non-conference game against undefeated Hope Christian at Alabaster. They will host New Life again in the CFA semifinals on Oct. 26.
